Domino’s Franchises

In 1960, Tom Monaghan and his brother, James, bought “DomiNick’s,” a pizza store in Ypsilanti, Michigan thanks to a $900 loan Monaghan had secured. In 1961, James traded his half of the business to Tom for a Volkswagen Beetle. By 1965, Tom, now the sole owner of the company, renamed the store to “Domino’s Pizza, Inc.” and the first Domino’s franchise store opened in Ypsilanti, Michigan in 1967.

In 1978, Domino’s opened its 200th store and continued growing from there. By 1983 there were 1,000 Domino’s stores and 5,000 in 1989. Now, there are over 11,000 Domino’s franchise stores and they are all thanks to people like you that take it upon themselves become owners and operators of their very own Domino’s franchise locations.
